A 60-year-old Rose Township woman will stand trial in Oakland County’s 6th Circuit Court after being charged with voter fraud violations, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced. [snip] Investigators allege that in April 2024, DiDonato went online and registered her husband to vote by submitting his personal identifying information and falsely claiming he was an American citizen. DiDonato is a U.S. citizen, but her husband is a lawful permanent resident, making him legally ineligible to cast a ballot in any state or federal election. [snip] State prosecutors maintained that testing the system does not exempt someone from election laws. “Trust in our election system requires holding people accountable in the rare instance that they violate our statutes,” Attorney General Nessel said in a statement. “We are pleased this case now heads to trial, where this office will continue its obligation to investigate alleged criminal violations of Michigan Election Law and prosecute offenders.” A date for DiDonato’s pretrial hearing in circuit court has not yet been scheduled.
