The world’s richest man, SpaceX/Tesla CEO Elon Musk, was once Donald Trump’s good friend and donated some $260 million in the 2024 election to help the now-president and other GOP candidates get elected. He campaigned heavily for the Republican nominee and, after the inauguration, became the public face of the now-shuttered Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Then they had a falling out in June of ’25 — Elon had issues with the One Big Beautiful Bill, largely because it eliminated electric vehicle subsidies and Musk thought it contained a “mountain of disgusting pork” — and things turned ugly. Musk went so far as accusing Trump of hiding the Epstein Files because his name was probably in them. [snip] It looked like a doomed relationship. “America is toast if the radical left wins,” he wrote in January. Driving the news: Musk is resuscitating his dormant super PAC, America PAC, which spent more than $260 million to help get President Trump elected in 2024. America PAC will focus on door-knocking, digital advertising and direct mail aimed at turning out the conservative base, including voters who typically are less inclined to cast ballots in a non-presidential election year, sources with knowledge of the plans tell Axios. Musk’s representatives declined to specify exactly how much he’d spend. But given what he donated in 2024, the number is expected to be high. [snip] Musk is backing up his promises to go all-in for the GOP. In January, he donated $10 million to then-Senate candidate Nate Morris’ super PAC “Fight for Kentucky” (he later dropped out after Trump indicated he would like him to join the administration; the president later formally nominated Morris to be U.S. Ambassador to Colombia). Meanwhile, Musk has been strongly pushing the SAVE America Act to his 233 million X account followers. SAVE would increase election integrity by requiring voters to show proof of citizenship in order to register and show photo ID at the ballot box. Failing to pass SAVE is an act of high treason against the people of America— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 13, 2026 [snip] As we reported earlier, it appears to be so tight, they’re asking vendors not to send bills until after the midterm elections. While the Republican National Committee is sitting on nearly $130 million, the DNC is $2 million in debt. They also reportedly had stopped transferring the millions they usually send to sister committees responsible for winning the House and Senate, because they were so short on cash. They even took out a $15 million loan last year. Bless their hearts. Musk has shown himself to be volatile, brilliant, and controversial, sometimes all at the same time. Two things he definitely is, however, are entertaining and very, very rich. A full-on effort on his part could make the difference between winning and massive disaster.
