Democratic Socialist Says Conviction for Stealing Food Stamps Qualifies Her to Serve As Mayor

What’s going on in Denver, Colorado? In July, a 15-term incumbent Democrat lost the Democrat primary for Congress to Melat Kiros, a 29-year-old Democratic Socialist from Ethiopia whom Hasan Piker backed. She was fired from her law firm for publicly calling them out for not supporting Palestine after October 7. The New York Post says that Kiros is expected to cruise in the general election.

Now we have a Democratic Socialist candidate for Denver mayor who says that her stealing food stamps actually qualifies her for the office.

This is actually a disqualification. We have enough fraud in America, especially in food stamps!

The Free Beacon reports:

Lewis, the Denver Democratic Socialists of America’s pick for mayor, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft in 2008 after stealing thousands of dollars in public benefits by using her position with the Colorado Department of Human Services East Food Stamp Office to reissue Electronic Benefit Transfer cards intended for others to her roommate and herself. She was sentenced to 18 months of probation and later said she paid full restitution.

So she went from the food stamp office to city council and now hopes to be Denver’s next mayor.

The election isn’t until next April, and there are at least 10 people running for the seat. Still, a city that sent Kiros to Congress certainly wouldn’t hesitate to make Lewis mayor.
