Italian woman convicted of killing migrant who stole her purse. Maybe she should’ve claimed ‘postpartum psychosis’…

And like we just mentioned, in Massachusetts, a jury is still wrestling with what to do about Lindsay Clancy. Her defense is centered on her mental state and postpartum psychosis. The woman in Italy used “self-defense” to fight her case. It didn’t work.

But unlike Lindsay, over in Italy, Cinzia Dal Pino didn’t get nearly as much breathing room or support in her trial. Not even a fraction of what “family annihilator” Lindsay Clancy is getting.

Now, obviously, Italy and Massachusetts are different jurisdictions with different laws, judges, and different facts… but come on.

One woman says she was chasing down the man who stole her purse and threatened her, and she gets convicted of homicide very quickly.

Another woman admits to murdering her three children, and America is currently watching a jury struggle with whether postpartum psychosis changes everything. And for what it’s worth, before the killings, Lindsay Clancy was not diagnosed with postpartum psychosis by the clinicians who were treating her. In fact, two psychiatrists who treated her shortly before the murders testified that they saw no signs of psychosis.

There’s a very dangerous line between feeling sympathy for somebody and turning that person into a symbol of righteousness and glory.

The Lindsay Clancy case blew right through that line a long time ago.

Whatever the jury decides about Clancy’s criminal responsibility, there’s a social trial happening outside that courtroom, and this one is playing out on TikTok, Instagram, and the rest of social media, and it’s really creepy and scary.

Clancy has developed a cult-like following, made up of mostly feminist women.

And it’s not just people who believe postpartum psychosis is real (even though Lindsay was never officially diagnosed with that) or think her mental state deserves to be considered.

We’re talking about something much darker.

What we’re seeing is women grabbing their children, turning on the camera, and sobbing over Lindsay. They’re holding their kids, and even babies, while bawling, and posting messages like “Same, Lindsay.” Women are fundraising for Clancy and talking about her like she represents some deep struggle for mothers everywhere.

Some have turned this family annihilator into a martyr for motherhood.

This is literally the downfall of women.

Now another 2-year-old child is dead outside Chicago. His mother was found inside the home attempting to harm herself.

Police are calling it a “domestic-related homicide.”

And people living in that community are already saying the name we’ve all been thinking about:

Lindsay Clancy.

And the point we’re making here is bigger than some lopsided legal comparison.

If the accused is lucky enough to become a sympathetic cultural figure, the whole case can start looking very different. Once they’re embraced by the preferred political crowd and the mainstream media, every detail suddenly gets viewed through a much softer lens.

For the defendants who don’t get adopted by an official fan club of obsessed cat ladies, well, they’re pretty much out of luck. Suddenly context, emotion, fear, rage, and split-second reactions don’t count for nearly as much.

Maybe Dal Pino’s lawyers should’ve skipped the whole self-defense argument altogether. Maybe all she needed was a postpartum psychosis diagnosis and a TikTok cult.
